Bamboo flooring, is it the new hardwood?

Today bamboo flooring is one of the newest and hottest flooring products. The surge in popularity it has seen in the past 12-18 months is nothing short of amazing! Some are calling it "the new hard wood flooring". The reasons are ...

• Installs similar to wood floor

• can be used in more applications than traditional wood floors

• has similar durability and hardness to standard red oak

• care and cleaning is virtually the same as wood flooring

• it offers more dimensional stability than most wood floors by it's construction

• Bamboo is a much more renewable resource ( can be re-harvested about every 5-8 years)

As you can see there are many reasons to compare this product to a hardwood floor. However, we have been selling and installing bamboo flooring for nearly 4 years now and with many successful projects completed, and good overall feedback, it is our belief that bamboo is here to stay. However, we have no doubt that the hard wood flooring of years past is here to say as well and will always have a hefty share of the market.

Bamboo flooring is somewhat limited in how the manufacturer can color it, and it has only really three different "grain appearances" available. Because of that we prefer to think of bamboo flooring as a welcome addition to the hardwood floor family. Bamboo flooring is not actually wood, but in our opinion it has earned the right to co-exist with this proven time-tested old favorite.
