Flooring Questions? |
Aerobic flooring can be any one of many unique flooring products right out of the box, or it can be some traditional flooring choices installed using methods that make them ideal for aerobic activity. The flooring professor has years of combined experience to show you all the options and help you weigh them out so you can make the right choice for your aerobic flooring project!
cork flooring-This is a very viable option right out of the box for an aerobic or other exercise flooring area, it offers great memory and resilience which ensures effective "shock" absorption making your movements very easy on the joints.
vinyl flooring-This is a decent option in general right out of the box, but if you select a "cushioned" vinyl product it is preferable. Installation methods can also enhance the shock absorption this product offers. This would also be a very low maintenance option.
rubber flooring-This can be a great and viable option right out of the box as well for an aerobic floor. If the right rubber product is selected it can offer superior shock absorption, fairly simple care and cleaning, and some new and exciting design options as well!
specialty flooring-sports flooring-similar to the rubber option, but many sports floor products actually have a thick and VERY resilient under layer specifically designed for such activity as an aerobic room. This type of flooring will likely be very pricy, but if you want the best this is the option to look at!
wood flooring-wood flooring can make a very good choice as an aerobic flooring. A solid wood floor can be suspended with special installation methods on rubber supports that ad tremendous spring and resilience to the floor making it ideal as an aerobic flooring option! The flooring professor has recently even come across a revolutionary product designed as an acoustical and anti-fracture membrane that has great resilience that allows us to install an engineered wood floor by gluing down the membrane then gluing the wood floor to the membrane. This is a great option as well...and...it can even be installed below grade on concrete!!!!
Carpeting-This makes an inexpensive and workable option as an aerobic flooring. We suggest you consider using the double stick installation method and use a nice heavy carpet with a premium rubber pad of the maximum thickness accepted in your area. Then the pad is glued down and the carpet is glued to the pad...ultimately this offers a much better job for this use than trying to do a traditional "stretch" installation!
ceramic tile-this is usually not going to be a very good choice for this application it is hard and has little give, even with the help of a cushioned underlayment this really is not a good choice.
laminate flooring-This is not in our opinion the best choice either. you can put a premium quality rubber underlayment under a laminate floor and add decent resiliency. However, it seems inadequate, and if you try to go too thick it will affect the holding power of the locking system at the joints. we also do not like the fact that as of today most laminates have a very "slippery" feel and could be dangerous for such use.
**please note this same information applies to considering floors for dance, or yoga floor studios and many other exercise flooring areas.
