Bamboo floor styles

New bamboo floor styles are evolving as the popularity of bamboo grows. It is available in a horizontal grain which is an intriguing and interesting visual that gives the general appearance  of bamboo pressed together in a plank a little over 3 inches wide. This visual also has the distinct look of the bamboo being flattened and enhancing the knuckled look. it is readily available in natural, and carbonized as well as many colors offered by some manufacturers.

Another style of bamboo flooring is the vertical grain. vertical grain bamboo gives a linear appearance of narrow lines. This is achieved by a similar process to the horizontal grain, but is compressed vertically. Understanding the difference is easiest by looking at the end of the planks.

A newer and very interesting style of bamboo is strand woven bamboo. When producing strand bamboo the bamboo is in essence "shredded" and then compressed with bonding materials to create an interesting random grain look as well as a very dimensionally stable and durable product. As this style catches on we believe it will be extremely popular!

We have seen numerous colors introduced recently and predict the use of color in bamboo floor styles will become even more prevalent in the near future. Also of interest is the seemingly ongoing creativity of the manufacturers to find new looks and appearances to bring to the market.
