When considering bamboo flooring warranties you should first remember that a manufacturers warranty is designed to protect the consumer against faulty or defective product. The unaware consumer can easily get caught up in a trap of purchasing the best warranty and not necessarily the best product. The flooring professor is committed to helping you get the right product for your project at the best value.
We suggest you keep it simple...as is our recommendation on all warranties on flooring.
Look for a quality manufacturer by checking how they rate with us and/or asking your local dealer (but beware as in many cases your local salesperson or dealer may have bias toward the limited brands they carry in their store, whereas we rate most brands since in our many years of combined experience we have come across nearly all of them at one time or another)
look for a solid manufacturing defects warranty (usually 5 to 10 years is sufficient as any real legitimate defects will show up in the first 2)
Be sure the product has a quality finish applied and carries a minimum 10 year wear through warranty (again a little tip here is that the warranty is only as good as the manufacturer who represents it) sidenote*** much more than a ten year wear through warranty is overkill as the average consumer will screen and recoat their floors every 12 years or so.
DO NOT get too caught up in the extended times offered on some warranties it does NOT necessarily mean this product is any better than most of the others. We have seen far too many times where a manufacturer has put a ridiculous time length on a warranty as a marketing tool knowing full well they will not be paying out a claim.
NO. Most bamboo flooring warranties just like most other flooring warranties do NOT cover scratches in the finish of your floor. Some overzealous salespeople often represent certain durable products as having scratch warranties. DO not mistake a product that is produced to be "scratch resistant" as one that will not scratch or one that will have a warranty that covers scratches in the finish.
Because most bamboo flooring warranties (as well as other products in the hardwood flooring family) are clear cut and generally only cover visible defects, finish wear through, or finish releasing from the material there is really no need for pro-rating of the warranty, most are not.
We have found that most bamboo flooring warranties are very similar to similar products. We consider them to be competitively equal to their peers.
