Your premier resource for all of your cork flooring care and cleaning needs is the flooring professor! Our vast experience in the flooring industry gives us the hands on knowledge you need to be sure you protect the longevity of your new cork floor.
The job of cleaning and caring for your new cork floor is very similar to that of a new pre-finished hard wood floor. The technology available today can make the task of cork flooring care and cleaning a very simple one. If you have followed the way of the flooring professor and done your homework before you purchased your floor you are aware of the different types of finish coats that may be available or that is on the flooring you purchased.
Please be aware that this section on cork flooring care and cleaning is meant to offer general information to assist you in deciding If a new cork floor is a good choice for your home. It can also be an invaluable tool if you have purchased a new home that has existing flooring you need to care for and do not know exactly what it is. One other way this section can be very helpful is if you made the mistake of purchasing something without doing your homework and have no idea how to care for it.
OK, so just one more piece of Business before we give some solid advice and that is...the ideal situation will have you following ONLY the manufacturers specific care and maintenance instructions for the product you own, if you know this information please go to our brand specific flooring care and cleaning section.
Most cork flooring products today have either a varnish finish or a polyurethane, the maintenance will be similar to a wood floor in most cases....if you have a canister vacuum with a proper hard surface attachment you may use that to remove large soil particles and debris, a broom with dustpan and/or dust mop is also a good solution. Once you have removed the larger particles we suggest you use a premium quality hard surface floor cleaner. DO not assume this means some high profile name brand cleaner off your grocery store shelf because in most cases these products are NOT the best to have as part of your cork flooring care and cleaning program. There are several VERY good hard surface cleaning kits on the market to get you started, we have tried many and have a couple that we really feel are the best. You can purchase these products from one of our trusted vendors at a special price as our gift to help you get started on your way to a proper cork flooring care and cleaning program by visiting our cork flooring care and cleaning products page!
