The bamboo is split and flattened, before being laminated together with glue under high pressure. bamboo floors are typically made available in planks approximately 3 1/2" wide.

Someone told me bamboo floor is made from grass is that true?

Yes it is true! As a grass plant, bamboo grows at rate much higher than trees, it reaches maturity in just 5-8 years. It is therefore considered eco-friendly highly renewable source of material. Recently this product has gained popularity with the green building council and others. Typically each plant or tree can reach maturity in five to six years whereas other more common hardwoods used for flooring can take upwards of 50 years and more. Many people are looking at bamboo floor just for it's renew ability, but what has happened is as more people own new bamboo floors they are finding it a low maintenance, and durable choice for flooring today!...<more about bamboo flooring>

Answers to flooring questions - wood floor

What can I use to clean my new wood floors?

Deep cleaning of your new wood flooring involves "wet" cleaning. this method of wet cleaning can be done a number of ways. But the safest and most common is a mopping method with a special type of mop and wood floor cleaner from a standing position. There are a variety of mop kit brands available available today and some work much better than others. We advise that you use one of our recommended wood floor care kits. Be sure  whatever method you use that you NEVER saturate your wood flooring product with an excessive amount of water. This also holds true when wet cleaning any other "wood based" flooring product...<more about wood flooring cleaning>.

Can I put a solid wood floor in my basement?

Yes, but...there are some specific requirements and unless it is absolutely necessary we cannot recommend this installation. Answers to flooring questions - Ceramic tile

Is ceramic tile cold on the feet?

We often get consumers who are considering tile asking if ceramic tile is cold on the feet. This usually comes from someone having told them this is the case. This as a general rule is a misconception. When we step onto tile in most cases it's temperature is that of the room which for most of us in cool weather is about 70 degrees F. It tends to "feel" cool because average human skin temperatures are around 85% and if the tile is 70 it will feel cool on the skin. truth is wood floor, laminate flooring, vinyl sheet flooring or any other hard surface flooring will be basically the same temperature within a couple degrees. As far as we can tell it is what we will call a temperature illusion! to resolve this issue there are many under flooring heat systems to keep your feet toasty warm!
