Flooring Warranty Overview

On this page we will offer you a comprehensive flooring warranty overview in general terms. After many years of experience inspecting and settling claims in the flooring industry it has become obvious that the warranty on floor coverings are as a rule, oversold and under-explained by sales staff, overly abused by consumers and dealers, and seldom is there a legitimate warranty claim paid out by the manufacturer.  We hope that after you read this flooring warranty overview and the related category links that you will have the general understanding of what the manufacturers real responsibility is as well as your dealers, and how buying products from a "non authorized" dealer may mean you have no warranty at all.

We do not wish to put fear in you as the consumer, but we do wish to help you to have a realistic view of what to expect from your flooring warranty, the flooring manufacturer, the flooring installer, and from your flooring dealer.

It should be understood that the basic function of a product warranty is to "PROTECT the consumer from a DEFECTIVE PRODUCT" Ok now I think that anyone with common sense can agree with that statement but here's where the problem lies.... if we asked 500 people what determines a DEFECTIVE PRODUCT we would likely get at least 450 different answers. Enter the attorneys, see each of these companies has expensive attorneys and they usually consult with them when writing a warranty, this is not to take advantage or trick anyone, nor is it to give you a warranty of no worth it is actually to write a reasonable guideline of what determines if their product is defective in materials or workmanship of the production of the finished product in order to give the consumer that may purchase their product a clearly defined level of protection in the event of a LEGITIMATE product failure.

Each Manufacturers warranty guidelines will as a rule be a bit different than their competitors, but "similar" for similar products. I cannot begin to tell you the number of salespeople I have experience OVERSELLING A WARRANTY to a consumer, or how many consumers I have seen upset after this has happened and they have a claim only to blame the manufacturer for the "fine print"  You will find that the professor will not allow salespeople, nor consumers in this case to put the responsibility on the "big bad manufacturer."

In all Honesty it was the dealer/salespersons responsibility to "explain" and "disclose" the details of the warranty as well as the consumers responsibility to understand those same details BEFORE THE PURCHASE.  Too often I have seen the salesperson only touch on the "highpoints" or "features" of the warranty (Oh Wait did I say features? hmmm don't we talk about features when we buy a product? is he/she selling us the product or the warranty?  {get the point?}) anyway, the point is at some point the people actually conducting the transaction in the store need to take responsibility for the accuracy and thoroughness of warranty discussions.

Ok now that we have you scared to death that you may buy a product that will not have a good warranty JUST RELAX, that is not what this exercise is about. Besides you are at the first step, if you are considering or have made a flooring purchase as a registered member of this site, we will assist you with understanding what your warranty actually means to you.
