Considering color

Color is an important aspect to selecting the right flooring for your home. Some simple tips are to first look at your decor, decide then how you want your flooring to fit into that scheme.

For example...do I want my floor to make a bold statement? or do I want it to simply be a neutral canvas which you can use as a backdrop for adding color with furniture, window treatments, rugs, pillows, etc...

Then once this answer is established you will want to consider what color to use. many factors can affect this choice such as any existing furnishings, paint, or other decor items you will be working with. Your flooring choice then becomes more simple.

What about texture?

Texture is just as important as color. It can add a design element to a room easily. Another advantage of using texture of course is it's ability to disguise traffic patterns in carpeted areas.

Flooring is available in may textures today. Carpet textures range from a smooth pencil point finish to deeply patterned loops or cut and loops. Wood flooring is available today in what is referred to as Hand scraped (although many of these products are actually machine scraped). laminate flooring and tile have may textures to choose from as well.

Defined patterns tend to make more of a bold statement, frieze carpets as well as berbers tend to have a more casual look than traditional saxony carpets. Textured wood floors bring great depth of design but do bring up some future care concerns. no matter what your thoughts share them with us and our design tips will help you decide what will work best in your home.
