Rubber flooring care and cleaning is a bit unique compared to cleaning and maintaining other hard surface floors. It requires some additional steps and some special type of cleaning products to ensure that your new rubber flooring product will look beautiful for years to come! The flooring professor has all the up to date rubber floor care information. Please be aware that unlike most of the other types of hard surface flooring such as sheet vinyl, hardwood floors, bamboo flooring, cork flooring, vinyl tile, ceramic tile, or porcelain tile most rubber flooring will have more manufacturer specific rubber floor care requirements. We will offer you solid generic advice as well as resources to get manufacturer specific care and maintenance information.
First you should be sure and understand that grit and dirt are definitely the enemy of your rubber floor and should be removed as often as necessary based on usage.
You should always sweep or vacuum your rubber floor regularly. a medium stiffness bristle broom and dustpan or a hard surface attachment on a vacuum are desirable. a dust mop is not a good choice on this type of flooring and be sure you do NOT use a vacuum with a rotating bar it can damage your floor!
Spot clean your floor as needed with a neutral detergent diluted in water (approx 1-2 oz per gallon) and apply with a soft clean cloth wiping until spot is removed.
For overall deeper cleanings prepare same cleaning solution as for spot cleaning and apply to floor using a cotton or rayon mop. be sure to not allow the solution to dry on your floor and scrub the floor using a firm bristle brush (such as a deck brush). Be sure to wet vac the floor or mop it up to remove the cleaning solution. The next step in proper rubber flooring care is to rinse the entire floor with clean cold water then remove the water with a wet vac or mop. AFTER the floor is thoroughly rinsed allow it to dry (this should take a good hour or a bit longer).
A proper and regular maintenance program is very important to the longevity of your rubber floor, it can be damaged by overscrubbing, certain acidic spills, and other abrasive abuses. However, if the floor becomes dull over time we suggest in residential uses that you simply apply a quality commercial floor finish product to add a nice shine to your floor and add a layer of protection to keep it looking nice. (these products are acceptable to most all rubber flooring manufacturers.
Just as in any of our "generic" or general advice we do also recommend that you consult your manufacturers care and maintenance information before beginning any rubber flooring care program. This is especially important with rubber flooring as the composition of rubber can vary greatly between manufacturers. if you be sure to enroll in the flooring professor's consumer flooring care program we will guide you through your rubber flooring care program that is acceptable to your individual manufacturer.
