Ceramic flooring tile and stone are some of the most popular types of flooring today. But be careful! This product category has grown so rapidly it is even hard for us to keep up and we deal with it daily! We have seen several new variations recently of ceramic flooring. Tile for floors has gotten larger (normal sizes today are 16x16 and 18x18 and sometimes even larger.) the old trends of 10 years ago of a "ceramic look" tile in a 6x6 or 8x8 are GONE!
We are now seeing variations such as glass tiles, tiles with metal coating or finish on them, and of course a lot of natural stone tile. travertine in several variations being among the most popular, followed by limestone, granite, marble which also offer many variations.
Tile has very simple care and cleaning requirements, and it has been our experience that the only negative feedback we usually get from consumers on cleaning are with regard to cleaning the grout joints. Stone will require a bit more maintenance and must be sealed entirely in most cases.
Some consumers complain about tile being cold under their feet, mostly that is a state of mind, but in some cases it has merit, and in all cases is rectifiable with some of the new under tile heating systems that are easily installed by your tile installation professional.
Tile and stone are both very versatile products and are often used not only on floors, but also on walls in wet areas, as well as on tub decks (whirlpool/Jacuzzi tubs) in showers and tub surrounds, around fireplaces, and on both vanity and kitchen counters and backsplashes.
