Vacuum recommendations

A vacuum is an extremely important part of good carpet maintenance. We have had countless consumers show their frustration with finding a quality vacuum that meets their carpet cleaning expectations. According to the carpet and rug institute (a respected industry innovator that supplies many guidelines that are necessary in the flooring industry) for starters an acceptable vacuum should be able to pass minimum standards in the following areas...

• Soil Removal — The vacuum must remove a set quantity of soil from carpet in four passes
   
• Dust Containment — The vacuum must not release more than 100 micrograms of dust particles per cubic meter of air. This protocol evaluates the total amount of dust particles released by the brush rolls, through the filtration bag and via any air leaks from the system, and is more stringent than the National Ambient Air Quality Standards
   
• Carpet Appearance Retention — The vacuum should not affect the appearance of the carpet more than a one-step change based on one year of normal vacuum use

They have tested several machines and created what they call the green label approved vacuums. you can read more about this at the CRI green label vacuum page. perhaps you will find it helpful :)

What do we think at the flooring Professor?

We know how important it is to have a quality vacuum with a beater bar and brush so when checking out products be sure to look for this, also consider the tips given at CRI. We will in the next few months be focusing on testing and getting more information on vacuum products and hope to bring you some solid recommendations.

Until then use the above guidelines and remember it is our recommendation that you vacuum your carpets often...and when you are done vacuuming...

vacuum again!!

Get the picture? Honestly our suggested guideline is to vacuum once per week PER member in the household in your traffic areas at least.

Example:

Two adults and 1 child = vacuum three times per week

Two adults = vacuum twice per week

Two adults two children one dog = vacuum 5 times per week. (yes rover is a family member, and so is fluffy)
