Vinyl flooring care and cleaning
When it comes to vinyl flooring care and cleaning the flooring
professor has the needed tips, techniques and information to ensure
you can keep your new vinyl floor looking sharp for years to come!
To keep the lasting shine and fresh feel of your investment for as
long as possible, we recommend that you follow these general
guidelines.
Here is a short list of vinyl flooring care and cleaning basics
- wipe up spills as soon as possible. Remove dried spills with a
strong approved deep cleaner on a white cloth.
- Wash your floor occasionally with a premium quality floor
cleaner solution that does NOT leave a residue or film and
requires no rinsing. there are several quality floor care kits on
the market that we have tested we will help you select the right
one.
- Use a manufacturer approved heavy duty Floor Stripper and
Cleaner for heavy duty cleaning.
- Use an approved shine enhancer on occasion to return your
floor's original shine if it begins to dull over time.
Below we have supplied a short list of vinyl flooring care and cleaning NO-NO's!
- DO NOT use detergents, abrasive cleaners or "mop and shine"
products - they may leave a dull film on your floor. (just because
it is on the grocery store shelf and is a recognized brand DOES
NOT mean it will not cause damage to your floor)
- DO NOT use paste wax or solvent-based polishes.
- DO NOT use a beater bar when vacuuming because it can visibly
damage the floor surface. (use an approved hard surface wand
attachment on your vacuum, or a broom/dustpan, or dust mop)
- DO NOT use highly abrasive scrubbing tools.
PROACTIVE PROTECTION essentials for successful vinyl flooring care and cleaning
- When moving appliances or heavy furniture, lay a
thin (usually 1/4') plywood panel on your floor and "walk" the
item across it. This protects your floor from scuffing and tears.
- Use floor protectors, on ALL furniture to reduce
indentation. As a general rule of thumb, the heavier the item, the
wider the floor protector needed. (also note if you choose to use
felt protectors be sure to check them for dirt/sand and clean or
replace them often as they Will act like sandpaper and scratch you
floor)
- Be careful with rolling casters. They can damage
the floor. Therefore, we do not recommend them. If you choose to
use them, the double wheel type are the best option.
- Place a walk-off mat at outside entrances to
reduce the amount of dirt brought into your home. We do not
recommend the use of rubber- or latex-backed mats because the
chemical (antioxidant) used to keep the backing from becoming
brittle can permanently stain your floor. We suggest a non
staining vinyl-backed mat or a woven rug that is colorfast. Most
of these products are identified "colorfast" by the manufacturer.
Vinyl flooring care and cleaning is perhaps one the easiest care
programs of all hard surface flooring products. Unlike wood based
products it will not harm your floor if you use a little more water
in your vinyl flooring care and cleaning program. a properly
maintained quality vinyl floor can last many years and look good far
beyond its expected life if you follow the above vinyl flooring care
and cleaning tips. For additional information please consult our
