Wood floor care

Wood floor care and maintenance is a much easier undertaking today than it as for our mothers and grandmothers. The latest finish technologies and the refined shipping and manufacturing processes have made a beautiful new wood floor something that most anyone can own and care for with little effort! But, beware there are may misconceptions about wood floor care. The flooring professor with our centuries of combined floor covering experience can help you to be sure you do not make fatal mistakes and damage your new floor!

When considering a purchase of a hard wood flooring product the ease of maintenance should certainly be a consideration. Below we have provided you with an overview of general wood floor care procedures and techniques as well as recommendations of the proper products to use. As in ALL recommendations we make, they are based on our many years of hands on experience and will always be good solid advice. However, IF you follow the ways of the flooring professor you will likely know what brand of floor you own and know that we always recommend fully understanding your manufacturers wood floor care requirements and always stay within those requirements in order to maintain your warranty coverage. We also offer more brand specific help and information for wood floor care in our floor care guide.

General wood floor care involves first removing loose debris from the surface of your floor. Obviously larger items can be picked up and removal of other smaller loose particles can be done in a number of ways. Most of the well known methods can be used safely on most hardwood floors such as a traditional dust mop, a broom and dustpan, or a vacuum WITH a hard surface cleaning attachment. Any of these methods should certainly be acceptable for your wood floor.

Deep cleaning of your new wood flooring involves "wet" cleaning. this method of wet cleaning can be done a number of ways. But the safest and most common is a mopping method with a special type of mop and wood floor cleaner from a standing position. There are a variety of mop kit brands available available today and some work much better than others. We advise that you use one of our recommended wood floor care kits. For your convenience we have a great offer we suggest you try for Orange Glo Hardwood Floor Cleaner and Polish System which is one of our favorites.  Be sure whatever method you use that you NEVER saturate your wood flooring product with an excessive amount of water. This also holds true when wet cleaning any other "wood based" flooring product.

Stain removal on hardwood floors is less often discussed than on carpets because there are less things that will stain wood floors than carpets. Although there are things that will stain your hardwood flooring, each has a unique method to attempt to remove it. We have included a generic stain removal guide for each type flooring in this site. We do suggest however that you ALWAYS verify the manufacturers position before using any methods that may void your warranty. insider help in this area is available in our informative flooring care and cleaning guide

Again, please do not be afraid of how difficult wood floor care may be if considering the purchase of a new wood floor. We have sold and installed WELL into the hundreds of thousands of square feet of wood flooring and trust us when we say it is not your grandmothers old wax and buff wood flooring anymore. Wood floor care is about the same level of difficulty as any other flooring product these days so please if you want a wood floor just GO FOR IT! We will help you with the rest and make it easy for you to stay on top of your wood floor care program!
